A lovely manor house built in 1537 for the Lord Mayor of London, Sir John Champneis. The interior boasts a very fine Tudor great hall with original panelling, overlooked by a minstrel's gallery. The house is now owned by Bexley Heritage Trust.

Mansion built in 1792 for John Sperling by Benjamin Latrobe, then an unknown architect, who went on to design the White House in Washington, D.C. The interior features a fascinating full scale replica of the Elgin Marbles. The house was once owned by rock group Led Zeppilin.

 Hampton Court Palace

Hampton Court Palace A red-brick palace built in grandiose style by Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, advisor to King Henry VIII. Henry liked Hampton Court so much he took it over from the unfortunate Wolsey. Later redesign by Sir Christopher Wren created an English version of Versailles Palace on the banks of the Thames. the palace is surrounded by justly famous gardens, including a popular hedge maze and recreation of a Tudor knot garden.

 Hanbury Hall
  

Hanbury Hall (built 1701), is a charming William and Mary house of brick that was the seat of the Vernon family for over 300 years. Now run by the National Trust, Hanbury is set in 400 acres of gardens and parkland. The 18th century garden has been lovingly restored, and the interior boasts an exceptional staircase and collections of fine porcelain and Dutch flower paintings.

 Hardwick Hall
  

Hardwick Hall "Hardwick Hall, more glass than wall", describes the effect this house had on its amazed contemporaries. A lasting monument to the remarkable Bess of Hardwick, Countess of Shrewsbury, whose initials and crest are displayed prominently on the window-bestrewn exterior. Contents of the house have survived largely intact since it was built in 1590.

 Hartland Abbey
We had the pleasure of visiting here, and our information is based on our personal experiences We took some photos of this location that we'd like to share with you  

Hartland Abbey An Augustinian monastery from 1160 to 1539, Hartland Abbey was given to the Sergeant of the Wine Cellar at Hampton Court by Henry VIII. Still the home of the Stucley family, the Abbey houses Document and Photographic exhibitions. The original abbey cloisters run the length of the west passage in the basement, but above stairs 18th and 19th century remodelling features murals, painted panelling, and the vaulted and stencilled ceiling of the Alhambra Passage. Impressively restored gardens.

 Hatchlands Park
  

An 18th century mansion with interiors by Robert Adam. Hatchlands features the Cobbe Collection of rare and unusual keyboard instruments, which is probably the largest such collection in existence. The Repton-designed landscaped park is a backdrop for more formal gardens designed by Gertrude Jekyll. The house was built in 1750 for Admiral Boscawen, hero of the Battle of Louisburg.

A magnificent Elizaberthan mansion, showcasing some of the earliest examples of Renaissance style in England. A particular feature are two excellent sets of wall paintings, with a mix of classical and Biblical subject matter. The paintings have been called the best Elizabethan figure paintig in England.

Whatever your architectural tastes, you'll find something to enjoy at Holme Pierrepont Hall. Look for the 15th century timber roof, and a superb Tudor entrance with three story towers. The interiors are largely 17th and 18th century, and the north wing is a Victorian restoration. A long gallery overlooks the garden in the former courtyard.

Hughenden Manor Hughenden Manor was the home of Victorian prime minister and statesman Benjamin Disraeli from 1848 until his death in 1881. Most of his furniture, books and pictures remain in this, his private retreat. There are beautiful walks through the surrounding park and Chiltern woodlands and the garden is a recreation of the colourful design of his wife, Mary Anne.

Hutton-in-the-Forest A lovely historic house in a quiet north Cumbrian village, Hutton-in-the-Forest boasts a Stuart limsetone facade, which is dwarfed by two towers, one a surviving pele tower from the 14th century, the other a false Gothic giant constructed in the 19th century. The interior is a mix of Regency and Vicorian rooms, including original William Moris wallpaper. The same family has been here since 1605.
