Accommodation Details: Built in the time of Edward I, this Grade II* medieval hideaway boasts seven hundred years of history. A deep leather sofa, wood burning stove and delightful sleeping space, all add to a uniquely romantic experience. The Gatehouse serves as an peaceful and atmospheric base for exploring the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean. Extensively refurbished, the Gatehouse offers a charming loft-style living area within its ancient structure. The courtyard garden (shared with the owners) is delightful, and is being replanted in the style of Gertrude Jekyll. Local attractions include Tintern Abbey, Chepstow Racecourse and golf courses (St Pierre and Celtic Manor, home of the Ryder Cup 2010). The Gatehouse is only twenty five minutes from Bristol, thirty minutes from Cardiff and an hour from the Brecon Beacons. Please note, this ancient buildings charm includes a steep spiral staircase and quirky access to the bed space.
