There are 3 1/2 hides which are outside the city, that is 1 1/2 hides beyond the bridge, and 2 hides in Newton and Redcliff and in the bishop's borough; these paid geld with the city. There were in the city itself in the time of King Edward 431 houses paying geld and besides these the bishop had 56 houses paying geld.
