Wigton Heritage Snapshot
Wigton was granted a market charter in 1262. No doubt there were eventful markets in the square since then, but perhaps the most memorable event occurred during celebrations of Nelson's triumph at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, when the town's wooden market cross was burned down by accident.
