Between Little Langdale and the ascent of Wrynose Pass lies the lovely area known as Fell Foot. If you turn east from here instead of going up Wrynose you will come to Blea Tarn, one of the real beauty spots of the National Park. |
If you park in the lot beside the youth hostel at Honister Slate, and take the waymarked trail up the hillside towards Haystacks, you come to Feetwith Pike. Here, a small diversion takes you to a wonderful viewpoint looking out over Buttermere and Crummock Water. |
A small tarn lies at the very top of Fleetwith Pike. |
Early or late, Glenridding is a wonderfully scenic place. Boats float at anchor on the still waters of Ullswater. If you enjoy the early dawn, this can be a magical spot. |
The sun rises over Ullswater. Taken from the lakeshore just north of Glenridding. |
Wonderful things happen if you get up to greet the dawn on Ullswater! This small pier stands at the very southern end of the lake, between Glenridding and Patterdale. |
And yet another early morning on Ullswater - are you seeing a theme here? I find Ullswater such a beautiful, peaceful place, and the area around Glenridding is my favourite. |
Looking north along Ullswater from the top of Hallin Fell. You can park at the bottom of Hallin Fell, opposite the church, and climb a well-marked path to the top of the hill for wonderful views. |
A summit cairn marks the top of Hallin Fell. |
Looking west across Ullswater from the peak of Hallin Fell. |
Looking from Hallin Fell into Martindale. This is one of the most secluded spots in the Lake District, yet it is not far at all from major tourist areas. |
Hardknott Roman Fort at dawn. The location is breathtaking, and the views are wonderful. It is hard to get to, which is part of its appeal. The road is narrow and extremely steep, so great care is necessary, but the rewards make the trip well worth it! |
