At Acorn Bank near Temple Sowerby, the National Trust operates a water mill dating back to 1597. Surrounding the mill is a superb walled garden notable for its profusion of spring blooms, especially daffodils and wood anemones, plus a sunken garden, and a world-famous collection of culinary and medicinal herbs. The Bewcastle Cross is a superbly carved late 7th or early 8th century cross shaft, standing in the churchyard of a remote Cumbrian hamlet. The beautifully crafted decoration on the cross is probably the finest example of pre-Norman carving in England, and bears comparison to the superb Ruthwell Cross, across the border in Dumfries and Galloway.

A 15th century three-arch bridge built by the monks of nearby Furness Abbey across Mill Beck for the purpose of accessing New Mill, a watermill belonging to the abbey, which once stood on the south west bank of the beck. The bridge stands on an old packhorse route to the abbey.

Clifton Hall is a 15th century pele tower, or fortified house, located in a small village south of Penrith. The pele is the only remaining part of a much larger manor owned by the Wybergh family. The tower was ransacked by Jacobite soldiers on the eve of the Battle of Clifton Moor in 1745, the last battle fought on British soil.
