Pictures of Escomb Saxon Church - Roman inscription

Under the lip of stone in this photo is a Roman inscription.(upside
down, which indicates that the Saxon builders wee not in the slightest
concerned about the antiquity of the Roman remains, they simply used
them as readily available building materials). The inscription reads
LEG VI' (6th Legion). Due to the effects of weathering only the numeral
VI can be seen clearly.
