In 1732 General George Wade built a bridge across the River Fechlin, on the south shore of Loch Ness, to carry military traffic between Inverness and what is now Fort Augustus. The 'Wade Bridge' is an excellent example of a single-span humpbacked bridge. It carried traffic for almost exactly 200 years.
