Loch Ness, Scottish Highlands

Historic Hotels in the Scottish Highlands

Heritage Rated Hotels and other Historic accommodation Hotel Accommodation - about heritage ratings
We love the wonderfully rich history and cultural heritage of Britain. If your idea of fine accommodation is an elegant country house hotel, or you'd like to stay in a castle, or a rustic old coaching inn, or lay your head where Queen Elizabeth I slept, you'll like our new Heritage Rating system for accommodation. We've gone through thousands of hotels, guest houses, and B&Bs in our directory and rated the accommodation for its heritage interest. With Heritage Rated hotels you'll find more than a room - you'll find a slice of history! If you love British heritage, look for Heritage Rated Historic Hotels or Heritage Rated Historic Hotels. Historic Hotels, those rated highly on a Heritage Rating, are also highlighted in yellow and listed first within the listings for each town. Learn more about Heritage Ratings for historic hotels.

The dramatic landscape of the Scottish Highlands casts a romantic spell over millions of visitors each year. From the mysterious rumours of an ancient monster in the waters of Loch Ness, to remote glens and idyllic islands, there is so much to see and do that it is hard to know where to start. Follow Bonnie Prince Charlie to the Isle of Skye, or climb Britain's highest peak of Ben Nevis near Fort William. There are medieval castles like Eilean Donan and Urquhart, and stately homes like Dunrobbin Castle. Once you've begun to explore the Highlands and Islands you will come back again and again (you'll probably see the Britain Express family there, too, as we have fallen in love with the area!).

Here is a listing of our heritage-rated historic hotel locations in the Scottish Highlands and Islands region. Please select your desired location from the map or the menu below, or use the search form to the right. If you are planning a long stay, you'll want to look at our Highlands self catering guide, and for suggestions on what to see and do in the area, visit our Highlands Travel Guide.
