Bodnant

Steep paths lead down to the beautifully treed dell where there is
a millpond and an old mill. Conifers, planted in late 19th century
are over 100-ft. (30m) tall. A path runs along the upper dell as well
as down to the bottom.
The
most famous feature of the garden is a Laburnum Arch, a tunnel with
golden racemes hanging from century old metal frames. Go in late May
to see 180-ft (55m) in bloom. Garden terraces include: The Rose Terrace,
the Croquet Terrace, the Lily Terrace, the Canal Terrace and the Lower
Rose Terrace.

This grim stone Border fortress is set in lovely parkland of a more
peaceful 18th century. The formal gardens are notable for the floweering
shrubs, yew hedges, and rose collection. Offa's Dyke runs through
the park surrounding the castle.

Erddig House has been home to the Yorke family from 1733 The building
contains a family museum, but the grounds are now a country park dissected
by woodland walks. Near the house is a formal 18th century walled
garden, now restored to its original state. A Victorian parterre and
yew walk are augmented by the national collection of ivies. The garden
is at its best in the summer when the bedding plants are in full bloom,
and in autumn for the colouring trees.
