to it in London. Note that several of the museums are clustered near
to each other in South Kensington, making for an easy day out.
The museum is housed in an old church, now restored. In the churchyard stand the tombs of the Tradescants, father and son, plant hunters and royal gardeners. Nearby is the tomb of Captain Bligh of Mutiny on the Bounty fame. There is a permanent exhibit of gardening history and antique tools.

An fascinating museum specialising in the furniture, art, and domestic interiors of the urban middle classes. Displays are carefully arranged in a series of period rooms ranging from 1600 to the present. The museum is housed in lovely Georgian almshouses formerly owned by the Ironmongers Guild, and surrounded by an aromatic herb garden and a series of period garden rooms.

A life-sized replica of Sir Francis Drake's flagship, the Golden Hinde, on which Drake circumnavigated the globe in a voyage beginning in 1577. The Golden Hinde is docked at St Mary Overie Dock, Bankside, a short walk from both Southwark Cathedral and the reconstruction of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre.

The Grant Museum at University College London is one of the oldest zoological museums in Britain. It was founded by Robert Grant in 1827. Grant was a zoologist, teacher, and social radical who was a mentor to Charles Darwin. Grant held the first professorship of Zoology and Comparative anatomy in Britain, and was one of the first proponents of the theory of human evolution.

The art gallery housing the collection of the Corporation of London, includes works by Constable and the pre-Raphaelites Millais and Rossetti. In the basement of the gallery are the remains of a Roman amphitheatre discovered during construction. Beside the Gallery is the medieval great hall of the London Guildhall.
Once owned by the Rothschild banking family, Gunnersby Park is a grand home in Regency style. It now houses a local history museum for the London Boroughs of Ealing, and Hounslow. Included in the range of exhibits are archaeological finds from the area, the last hansom cab to work the borough, and several coaches owned by the Rothschilds themselves.

This museum is located in the attractive Georgian house where composer George Frideric Handel lived from 1723 until his death in 1759. The museum celebrates Handel's life and works and offers regular recitals of Baroque music in the superb setting of the period rooms. The museum is really 2 houses, numbers 25, where Handel lived, and number 23, the upper floor of which was the home of rock star Jimi Hendrix in 1968-69.

Formed in 1661, the Household Cavalry now guards Her Majesty on ceremonial occasions, but also plays a role in international peace keeping and humanitarian operations. The former studio of Victorian artist Frederic, Lord Leighton, now a museum dedicated to his life and works. The house, on the edge of Holland Park, is overflowing with artwork by Leighton and his contemporaries Burne-Jones, Watt, and Millais. The elegant interior houses period furniture and over 700 of Leighton's drawings. The exotic Arab Hall is notable for its fantastic tiled floors.
