Not best stay in Wales
We stayed in cottage early Sept for a week, prior to our leaving home contacted the owner who told us about electric problems, which had to be sorted, hence no electric on the Tuesday, we had to leave the cottage open to the electrical contractor, which we were not happy about, also told no WiFi but would leave sons password for us, this was not done, also about contaminated water, but left 2x5 litre bottles for us, but boiled water was used for everything else. The son was not too happy about giving us his password, which could only be used in the upstairs window ledge, nowhere else in the cottage. Did not feel homely at all, very cold due to there being no extra furnishings in the cottage, which we could understand due to the virus, but on our next cottage the following week, it had everything. This cottage was not up to standard, we have used many cottages around the UK and this one certainly rates the lowest. Did not meet the owner at all, very isolated, no mobile phone signal, hence no contact if there was an emergency. Did not feel it was a working farm which we had looked forward to.

Unsafe water, uncaring owner.
I booked this cottage via the Sykes holiday cottages website 2 weeks prior to my holiday. The day before I was due to arrive at the cottage, I contacted the owner on phone to arrange to pick up the keys. She told me then that there were a couple of issues with the property - one was that the water supply at the property had been deemed unsafe by the council due to the presence of enterococci, therefore it could not be used to drink but was safe to use for other purposes. She told me that she was taking all the measures advised by the council, but that the water was safe to use if boiled, and that she would leave 10 litres of bottled water for me to drink. The second issue was that there was no wifi at the property (it was advertised as having wifi), and that it would be set up on the 5th day of my week long stay there.
When I arrived at the property, I read the council notice about the water supply, which stated that it could not be used for food preparation or cleaning teeth - which was a great inconvenience as it meant fruit and veg could not be washed at the tap, nor could I clean my teeth at the tap. I would have to boil water, leave it to cool, then use this to wash food items or carry it upstairs to clean my teeth, which was not what I had expected to be doing on holiday. I also found that there was 4 litres of bottled water left at the property, rather than 10.
Finally, I found that not only was there no wifi, there was absolutely no mobile signal in a 3 mile radius of the property, and there was no landline either, leaving no means of communication at all in an emergency.
The next day I expressed my unhappiness to the owner about these issues, and asked for a partial refund in view of the inconveniences. Her reply was that she had informed me about the issues beforehand and she saw no reason why she should make any concessions to me. I got no reply when I pointed out that she had not informed me of the issues before I had paid for the non-refundable booking. She did provide extra bottled water when I pointed out that 4 litres was not adequate for a whole week.

The location was very peaceful and quite remote, being three miles from the nearest village. There was just the sound of the nearby river, and, on days that weren't misty, the views of the nearby hills were beautiful. The cottage was more than adequate for our needs, it was spacious and very clean, with plenty of leaflets and information inside the house. We particularly liked being close to nature, so this suited all four of us.

An excellent property which was well furnished and welcoming. This has to be one of the best equipped properties we have ever stayed in. The soft furnishings and beds were extremely comfortable. Everything possible had been done to ensure our holiday was comfortable and hassle free. Thank you to the owner for the trouble they've taken to make this cottage a home from home.

I loved the cottage, the location especially was beautiful. The owners were very attentive asking if we needed anything throughout the week. Everything about the cottage was perfect, we wouldn't change anything. I will be staying there again.
