Anglesey Abbey
Anglesey Abbey

Anglesey Abbey is a 16th-century house built upon the ruins of a 12th-century Augustinian priory. The interior of the house owes much to the eclectic tastes of the 1st Lord Fairhaven, who collected works as diverse as fine books, Italian bronzes, paintings by Gainsborough, and over 50 historic clocks. The original Chapter House of the priory has been divided in two to form the Living Room and the Oak Room. Throughout the effect is sumptuous, yet tasteful.

The 93 acres of 20th century gardens surrounding the house are divided into 23 unique garden rooms, each with its own style, including a Pinetum, Arboretum, Oak Avenue, Cyclamen Path, formal garden and Narcissus Garden. Over 100 pieces of statuary dot the gardens.

In the grounds is Lode Mill, a historic working watermill that grinds flour for sale.
