History Times gets history enthusiasts writing
Posted: 2009-09-05HistoryTimes is an interesting new concept for those, like me, who are avid about history. While the website has been around for a while, its just relaunched with a new focus; getting ordinary readers to become writers as well. The website, which is an offshoot of the HistoryDirect.com history book store (the folks who run the BBC History bookstore), features famous authors like Andrew Marr and Leanda de Lisle writing about their newest books. But instead of just reading Andrew Marr's article you can write your own article about historical subjects, review books, or just share something about the local history of your area.
To launch the new-look website HistoryTimes is offering one luck subscriber to their newsletter the chance to win over £500.00 worth of books and DVDs in a cool History Hamper.
Disclosure: In the interests of transparency I should mention that I am the new Heritage Editor for the relaunched HistoryTimes.com website.
In addition to all that reading and writing about history, you can find historic attractions to visit across the UK, and look for historic hotels to stay in at the same time.
HistoryTimes is an interesting concept, and well worth checking out if you want to read history from some of the best-known writers on the subject, or become one of History Times authors yourself! Who knows, maybe your book of local history will be featured on History Times someday.
UPDATE
Unfortunately, the History Times website is no longer online.
