National Trust Raffle - win a Morgan Sports Car
Posted: 2010-12-16ARCHIVED ARTICLE - the raffle has long since been awarded.
We get a LOT of press releases from heritage organisations. One from the National Trust just caught my eye. The Trust is launching a raffle to raise funds for renovating the historic house at Croome Court, near Malvern, Worcester. The raffle prize is a classic Morgan 4/4 sports car, donated by the Morgan company, who are based near Croome Court at Malvern Link.
About the car
If you've ever fancied owning a classic British sports car, you'll know all about Morgans. The company have manufactured 4/4s for over 70 years, and you could make a good case for the vehicle being THE classic British sports car. The raffle model is painted 'National Trust green' and is the most environmentally friendly sorts car made today.
Croome Court
The Court is one of the finest 18th-century houses in the Midlands, and is set in a superb landscape garden. Indeed, I'd have to say that the garden is one of the most enjoyable 18th-century gardens I have had the pleasure to visit in England. While the garden is in good order, the house itself is in desperate need of running repairs. The National Trust hopes to raise over £4.8 million to rewire the property, secure the floors, and waterproof the building. (NB. You will see the house variously listed as Croome Court, Croome Park, or Croome Park House - they all refer to the same place!)
The raffle
Tickets for the raffle cost £5, and can be purchased online through the National Trust website (in the interests of full disclosure I should mention that if you purchase a raffle ticket using this link we get a [very small but welcome] commission!). You can also purchase a ticket by visiting one of the properties listed below when the car is on show. When you purchase a ticket you can also 'gift aid' it if you are a UK taxpayer, meaning that for every pound you spend, the Trust actually receives £1.28! Tickets may be purchased at any time up to Monday, 9 May 2011.
The Morgan can be viewed at these National Trust locations in 2011:
26 & 27 March
Berrington Hall
2 & 3 April
Croft Castle and Parkland
22, 23, 24 & 25 April (Easter Weekend)
Coughton Court
30 April, 1 & 2 May (May Bank Holiday)
Baddesley Clinton
So if you fancy the chance of driving a classic British sports car next summer, or you just want to support the restoration of one of England's finest stately homes, it might be worthwhile purchasing a raffle ticket.
