Yorkshire Dales Self Catering cottage, Fern House, Kettlewell, sleeps 12
Areas: Yorkshire Dales
Sleeps a maximum of: 12
Pricing From: £1265
A fabulous, detached country house, central to the village of Kettlewell, with seven bedrooms split over the main house and an annexe accommodating up to 12 people.
Fern House is a wonderful country retreat for families and groups of friends; a beautiful, detached country house in the village of Kettlewell, across the road from a pretty beck. The property was once the blacksmiths to the coaching in and stables up the road, and now offers fabulous accommodation split over the main house and an annexe. The main house has seven bedrooms, three with TVs and king-size beds, one with an en-suite and one with the zip/link option of becoming a twin.
There is also a family bathroom and ground floor WC, a kitchen with a dining area for four, a dining room seating eight and a sitting room with a woodburning stove. In the annexe, there are two bedrooms, a double and a twin, a bathroom, a kitchen with a dining area for four, and a sitting room with a woodburner of its own. The two parts of the house share an enclosed lawned garden and patio with furniture, plus two off road parking spaces, though there is also roadside parking available outside the house.
In a great base for walking, with the stunning Dales stretching on either direction of the village, Fern House is perfect for a Yorkshire getaway.

Perfect Village Home
A lovely family friendly home in the centre of Kettlewell, with its three pubs, tea shops and friendly village shop. We were a group of friends and family aged from 5 to 70
Lovely big house with plenty of space for all of us, don't know where the other review of this house came from but we had no issues with WIFI, the house was clean and the beds comfortable. TV has Netflix ideal for the little one, who loved his stay here. You do need to know about Aga cooking as the back up cooker is not very good and larger wine glasses are needed, we bought our own gas BBQ although there is a small charcoal one and we bought a slow cooker which was handy to use when out for the day walking, the Aga is great for slow cooking and gives a great flavour.
All in all a very nice place to stay, would definitely come back

Needs some TLC and lessons in customer care
The location is good, it is quite a squeeze to get two family size cars in the parking space due to the parking on the road on either side, I wouldn't like to be looking for a space in the height of Summer, there is a pay car park nearby and we used that for one of our cars. We spent a long time finding what we hoped would be the perfect place for our multi generational family Christmas, it didn't turn out quite as we would have hoped. The owners of the property live abroad and it shows signs of being uncared for, the showers in the main house were mouldy, the dishwasher cutlery basket had holes in it as well as the actual shelf for the plates lacking a runner so difficult to pull out, the kitchen table top was wonky so any thing you put on it was in danger of sliding off. Worse than this was the fact we were unable to contact the handyman, when we contacted the agents on Christmas Eve they told us the heating oil might run out, not ideal with a 97 year old in the party. One of our main disappointments was the lack of wifi, despite the fact these problems had been reported in the visitors book nothing had been done to remedy the situation, so when we turned up they already know it wasn't working but didn't relay that information to us. Very sad for one ten year old who had an iPad as his Christmas present. Overall we made the best of it, the walking around there is fantastic and the local pub very friendly, I would have liked to discuss these matters with the owner but so far my emails have not had a response.

Fern House is very well located for exploring the Yorkshire Dales, in particular we visited Malham, Bolton Abbey and Aysgarth Falls. The size of the property was perfect and everyone was greatly impressed with the cleanliness, decor and furnishings. We couldn't have asked for any more!
