Exhibits at this award-winning museum are divided into four main fields; Archaeology, Art & Architecture, Local & Social History, and Natural History.
ARCHAEOLOGY
Within this section are Roman artefacts, coins, medals, arms and armour excavated from the Roman fort of Dewa and surrounding areas.
ART & ARCHITECTURE
Displays include fine art, silver, furniture, clocks, architectural design elements, and watches.
LOCAL & SOCIAL HISTORY
A rich display of local crafts, costumes, musical instruments, glass, toys, ceramics, and written and photographic archives of the city and surrounding area.
NATURAL HISTORY
Here you can find out about the geology of the Chester area, invertebrate and vertebrate zoology, and biology of local species.
One of the most enjoyable parts of the museum is the City Timeline, which takes visitors on a historical journey into the rich past of Chester, from the time of the Romans.
There is a changing program of special events throughout the year. Facilities include a lecture theatre, refreshment area, shop, and toilets with baby changing units. Disabled access.
