Occupying the summit of Cranbrook Down is an Iron Age hillfort enclosing an area of 13 acres. The earthwork bank is well-preserved and is reinforced with stone in several places. You can reach the hillfort via an exceptional walk from Castle Drogo at the western end of the Teign Gorge.

The slopes of Hartor Hill at Drizzlecombe are home to three Bronze Age stone rows, each stretching between a large standing stone and a burial cairn. One row is made of a mix of single and double rows of aligned stones. Aside from the stone rows, there are numerous cairns, hut circles, cists, and prehistoric settlement sites on the moor.

On a spur of land above the River Dart, on the edge of Dartmoor, stands an Iron Age hillfort with a Norman motte and bailey castle within its earthwork banks. The hillfort was built around 500 BC and abandoned in the 1st century AD. A thousand years later a Norman motte was built within the ramparts.

Merrivale Prehistoric Site is not one monument, but a multitude of monuments sharing the same wonderfully scenic location in western Dartmoor. Here you will find the remains of a Bronze Age settlement, two stone rows (including one double row), solitary standing stones, burial cairns, and a stone circle. This is probably the most visited ancient site on Dartmoor, due to its proximity to a major road.

At the foot of Belstone Tor, on the northern fringe of Dartmoor, stands a Bronze Age stone circle known as the Nine Maidens (though there are, in fact, 16 standing stones). The stones are said to be maidens turned to stone for daring to dance on the Sabbath.

In moorland near the hamlet of Gidleigh stands perhaps Dartmoor's most impressive stone Circle. Scorhill Stone Circle originally boasts around 70 standing stones. Of these, 23 remain upright with another 11 fallen. Nearby is the Tolmen Stone, used in fertility and healing rituals.
