This elegant red-brick building was built in 1680 to regulate goods flowing into Exeter. It is the oldest purpose-built custom house in England and features original 17th-century fittings and superb plasterwork ceilings. The Custom House is home to a visitor centre and free museum of local heritage.

The Exeter Guildhall claims to hold the distinction of being the oldest municipal building in England still in continuous use. The first Guildhall existed prior to 1160, but the current building dates from the late 15th century. The Guildhall retains its 16th-century oak door.

Fingle Bridge is a picturesque packhorse bridge over the River Teign near Drewsteignton, in the north-east corner of Dartmoor. Gallants Bower is a Civil War earthwork fort built by the Royalist defenders of Dartmouth. It saw action in January 1646 when the Parliamentarian army under General Fairfax forced 1,000 Royalists to surrender after a brief siege. All that remains are earthen ramparts and bastions.
