The historic city of Leicester was a Roman settlement beside the River Soar. The impressive Jewry Wall remains from the Roman baths complex. Nearby is the 11th-century mound of Leicester Castle and the church of St Mary de Castro where Chaucer was married. In the cathedral is the tomb of Richard III, found under a nearby car park.
