Caister Castle is a picturesque 15th-century fortress surrounded by a moat. The castle was built by Sir John Fastolf, who was the model for Shakespeare's Falstaff. Fastolf built Caister Castle between 1432 and 1446, with a tower that reaches 90 feet in height.

Extensive remains of a Norman motte and bailey castle built by the powerful Earl of Surrey, William de Warenne shortly after the Norman conquest. The earthwork defences are among the best preserved in England from the Norman period. A few minutes away, at the opposite end of the village, is Castle Acre Priory, a well preserved 11th-century Cluniac abbey also established by de Warenne.

An impressive 12th century castle with the oddly redundant name, built by William Albini to celebrate his marriage to the widow of Henry I. At the centre of the defenses is a wonderfully preserved rectangular keep, set within earthwork defenses that enclose an area of 12 acres.

William the Conqueror built the first castle atop a high mound in 1067, using the townsfolk as forced labour. The present Norwich Castle was built 60 years later. The castle is now a museum housing local art, silver, glass, and porcelain, as well as archaeological remains and medieval armour.

The partial remains of a Norman motte and bailey fortification are all that survive of Thetford Castle. Today only the mound remains, surrounded by extensive earthwork defences, including twin ditches of considerable height and depth. The mound was erected on top of an earlier Iron Age hillfort created around 500 BC.

Weeting Castle is not a castle in the traditional sense, but a 12th-century moated manor house built by the de Plais family. The site was first occupied by a Saxon settlement in the late 10th or early 11th century, but around 1180 the de Plais family constructed a fortified manor house, and about 70 years later they added a rectangular moat to enclose the site.
