Canon Gate is an early 16th-century gateway linking busy South Street to the Chichester Cathedral precinct via Canon Lane. The gateway bears the coat of arms of Bishop William Wykeham.

Chichester's superb market cross dates to 1501 and replaced an earlier timber-framed cross on the same site. This is perhaps the finest surviving stone market cross in England. Look for the bust of Charles I, erected in 1664 to assure Charles II that Chichester supported the restoration of the monarchy.

Ifield Mill is a working watermill dating to 1684. The mill was rebuilt in the early 19th century and worked into the 1920s. It was restored in 1974 by the Crawley Borough Council and is now operated by the Crawley Museum Society.

A Jacobean almshouse in the heart of East Grinstead, Sackville College Almshouses were created in 1609 when Robert Sackville, Earl of Dorset, left money in his will to provide accommodation for elderly people. A former warden of the college, Reverend John Mason Neale, composed the hymn Good King Wenceslas.

The largest mill in Sussex, Shipley Windmill (sometimes known as King's Mill) is an eight-sided smock mill built in 1879. Smock mills are so named because their shape was supposed to resemble a farm labourer's smock. The mill is four stories high and stands atop a brick base that is two stories in height.

The finest example of a half-timbered building in Sussex, St Mary's House was built by William Wayneflete, Bishop of Winchester, about 1470. Wayneflete's house was intended as a residence for four monks who served as bridge wardens for an important crossing of the River Adur at Bramber.
