The Story Behind the Image - Standing Stone, Danby
Danby is an attractive village on the northern edge of the North York Moors National Park. It is also home to the National Park's visitor centre, a must-see stop for visitors to the Park.
I've visited Danby on several occasions, usually to photograph the colourful summer heather on Danby Beacon, which looms above the village itself.
This photo was taken on the very first day of my very first visit to Danby, late on a summer evening.
Not knowing the area, I simply walked up onto Danby Beacon and found myself standing amidst attractive heather in bloom.
As I explored I came across this ancient standing stone, looking out over the valley below. This is so typical of the North York Moors!
