One of the earliest and most important landscaped parklands in Britain, fronted by the tallest yew hedge in England. Cirencester Park was designed by the 1st Earl Bathurst from 1710, with advice from poet Alexander Pope, as a semi-formal rural retreat of carefully planted treed avenues, or 'rides', dotted with neo-classical follies. Among the follies is Alfred's Hall, the first neo-Gothic garden building in Britain.
