The historic town of Dumfries grew up around a crossing of the River Nith. It is closely linked with the poet Robert Burns, who lived the last few years of his life here. His house is now a fascinating museum. See the mausoleum that marks his grave and sit in his favourite chair beside the fireplace at the Globe Inn.
