Hugh Miller, stonemason, geologist, editor and writer, was born in this simple thatched cottage in 1802. Beside the cottage is a Georgian house now used as a museum of Miller's extraordinary life and work.

This modern museum lies on the A865 about seven miles from Lochboisdale. The museum is only part of a small complex of buildings which include a cafe, craft shop for local artisans, and a cultural centre. Much of the museum collection was drawn together by Father John Morrison, the local parish priest of Iochdar during the 1950s and 60s.
