The Story Behind the Image - River Thames, Lechlade

A swan swims in the peaceful River Thames opposite a riverside pub at Lechlade, Gloucestershire, in the picturesque Cotswolds.

Lechlade (more properly Lechlade-on-Thames), is a pretty town directly on the border between Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.

The town grew up on the north bank of the Thames in Gloucestershire, but this photo was taken from the Thames Path, on the south bank of the river in Wiltshire.

My family and I were on a lovely walk from Lechlade to the wonderful medieval church at Inglesham, over the fields and water meadows to the south.

On our way back we were walking along the river towards the bridge over the Thames when I spied a swan paddling lazily along the river. I waited for it to pass in front of the lovely riverside pub on the far bank before I snapped the shutter.
