Gardens in the Lake District
At Acorn Bank near Temple Sowerby, the National Trust operates a water mill dating back to at least 1597. Surrounding the mill is a superb walled garden notable for its profusion of spring blooms, especially daffodils and wood anemones, plus a sunken garden, and a world-famous collection of culinary and medicinal herbs.

Brockhole is one of the most popular gardens in the Lake District, where there is no shortage of excellent gardens to attract visitors! Brockhole is located immediately beside the main National Park visitor centre south of Windermere and is owned by the National Park authority. The garden was begun by Thomas Mawson in the early years of the 20th century and is laid out on a series of terraces.

Garden: Five acres of horticultural delight surround the medieval house at Dalemain. At the start of summer there are Himalayan poppies. There is a terraced garden dating from the 1680s, with a terrace walk, and there are 100 old-fashioned roses, traditional varieties of apples, a wild garden, and a Tudor Knot garden. Tree-lovers will enjoy seeing the largest Abies cephalonica (silver fir) in Britain.
