The Museum is housed in a Victorian building set within Fitz Park, in central Keswick. The collections include exhibits on the social and natural history of the Lake District, with special attention to the area's literary heritage.
There are letters by Southey, Wordsworth, and Walpole, as well as mementoes of the region's famous residents and visitors. A popular exhibit is a large scale model of the Lake District. The art gallery hosts changing exhibits by local area artists.
