Coombe Abbey began as a 12th-century Cistercian monastery. After the monastery was suppressed by Henry VIII, Sir John Harrington bought the estate and built an impressive stately home. Later, the Craven family called in Capability Brown to lay out the grounds. Garden features include Brown's deer park and lake, a Victorian formal garden and arboretum.
