The Story Behind the Image - Anne Hathaway's Cottage, Shottery, Warwickshire

Anne Hathaway was born and raised in the Warwickshire village of Shottery, just outside Stratford-upon-Avon.

This is the cottage where she was raised, and where she was courted by William Shakespeare. The playwright-to-be walked to Shottery from neighbouring Stratford, and modern visitors can follow in his footsteps as a signposted footpath leads from central Stratford to Anne Hathaway's Cottage.

The cottage has been beautifully restored by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.
