Calbourne is a ridiculously petty village near Freshwater in the western part of the Isle of Wight. One appealing feature of Calbourne is a row of thatched cottages on Winkle Street, beside a quiet stream known as the Caul Bourne.

Winkle Street is one of the most popular destinations for photographers on the Isle of Wight - for good reason - and this row of cottages frequently gets photographed for tourism brochures and local calendars.

What I remember most about my visit to Calbourne is that a cat came out of one of the cottages as I explored and attached itself to me. It seemed to think that my mission in life was to pay attention to it. You know, like every other cat ever born.
