About the area
Located just north of the bustling West End with its theatres and nightlife, Bloomsbury is quieter than its neighbour and offers a good selection of hotels in the budget and mid-range category.
The area has a reputation as a centre of London's literary and artistic community, with the most famous - or infamous - being the Bloomsbury Group of Virginia Woolf, Vita Sackville-West, and their clique. Bloomsbury is famous for its refined, sedate residential squares, most notably Bedford Square and Russell Square.
