Abernethy Tower is an 11th-century round tower, one of only two such towers known to exist in Scotland (the other is at Brechin). Such towers are common in Ireland, but rare in Britain. The tower is 15 feet in diameter at the base, tapering towards the top some 72 feet above.

The iconic Black Watch Memorial stands on the south bank of the River Tay at Aberfeldy, opposite the field where the regiment was first mustered in 1740. The memorial is the form of a cairn topped by a statue of a Black Watch soldier.

Outside historic Brechin Cathedral stands one of only two Irish-style round towers in Scotland (the other is at Abernethy). The tower was built in the 11th century, with the addition of a stone roof from the 15th century. The most striking feature of the tower, aside from its unusual architecture for Scotland, is its highly carved doorway.

Major General David Stewart wrote the definitive book on Highland customs and the clan system. He is responsible for our modern, heavily romanticised view of the traditional Highlander. A memorial erected by the Stewart society stands at Keltneyburn, at the eastern end of Glen Lyon, a mile from his birthplace at Garth Castle.

In 1733 General George Wade built a bridge across the River Tay at what is now Aberfeldy as part of his network of roads and bridges aimed at pacifying the Scottish Highlands. It is the finest of Wade's 40 bridges and the only one still carrying road traffic.

Pitlochry Dam was begun in 1947 as part of the Tummel Valley hydro scheme and generates electricity for 15,000 homes. The dam is known for its fish ladder, used by Atlantic salmon to reach their spawning ground each year.

A historic 18th-century mill on the banks of the River Tay, containing one of the oldest purpose-built factory buildings in the world. Stanley Mills is one of the finest surviving examples of industrial heritage in Scotland. The mill was begun in 1785 as a cotton mill by several local merchants, supported by the English industrial pioneer Richard Arkwright.

Sunnybrae Cottage is a simple late 18th or early 19th-century cruck-framed house thought to be the oldest in Pitlochry. Sunnybrae is a type of vernacular architecture once very common throughout the Highlands, with cruck construction and a thatch roof (the latter is hidden beneath a more modern corrugated iron roof). It may incorporate parts of much earlier buildings.
